Gingerbread People

Gingerbread People


  • 300g butter
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 125g soft brown sugar
  • 225g golden syrup
  • 725g Plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons bread soda
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinamon
  • 6oz icing sugar


Preeat oven to 180 degrees C, Line 2 baking trays with baking paper
In a large saucepan, melt the butter together with the sugars and golden syrup. Sift the flour, baking soda, ground ginger and cinnamon into a large bowl. Add the melted butter mixture and mix together.
Knead the mixture for a few minutes and place in fridge for at least 30 mins. Remove from fridge and roll out on a floured worktop until 1/4 inch thick. Cut out using boy/girl cutters and bake for 12 min. I use the garlic press to make long hair for the girls. Allow to firm up for a few minutes and then remove from the tin.
Use the icing mixed with some boiling water for decorate and add jelly beans, chocolate chips as eyes, sprinkles, chocolate buttons for whatever suits.
